FREEDOM-VIGILANCE
An Encore
Composed by Bennie J. Baucum, Sr.
In our dreams we oft' recall
How bagpipes make that mournful sound,
And of Comrades who did fall,
Who now lay cold below the ground
They gave their all that we could see
More days of Liberty
"Freedom-Vigilance" was their cry,
As life slowly, languishly, passed them by
That their neighbors could remain free,
Their vigil did not rest, overl land, in the air
or upon the sea
Freedom-Vigilance!
As wars rage on, we're all so very sad,
Knowing that for all of our troops times are rough,
Yes, for them, times are very bad
Yet, in their hearts what we can't see,
Is a determination that we remain Free
So for them, as time has passed,
Vigil is the password for every man,
Down to the last
Freedom-Vigilance!
The 38th Parallel in Korea, Our troops were told,
Must remain an invisible barrier between North and South
That they hust hold,
Tho' there never really was a "total victory" goal
Too many of our young men on Pork Chop Hill
Fell for freedom and will remain until
Gabriel blows his horn for the final roll call,
We recognize that they wereVigilant through it all
Freedom-Vigilance!
Not long before Korea was World War Two,
When the losses of our Comrades soared to more than a few
In the Pacific, Normandy, The Battle of The Bulge,
Were those Battles fought for no real cause?
Nay, We ust remain thankful that those men did pause,
That our Eagles might continue to soar,
While our men fell cold on another shore
That our Freedom would remain, there was little doubt
While from their foxholes, our fighting troops would shout
"Freedom-Vigilance"!
In Vietnam there was no less fright,
For Young Heroes, who through the night,
Continued to do battle and to pray
That they might return to the Eagle's nest another day
They too, knew what freedom was all about
And, from those Brave Ones too, we heard the shout
"Freedom-Vigilance"!
Must continue to remember until our dying day
That our Comrades of yester-year
Have gone ahead to prepare the way
And, that each time we shed a tear
We will recall Comrades and days gone by
When those Comrades said it all in their cry
"Freedom-Vigilance"!
While bagpipes continue to wail that mournful sound,
For heroes who now lay beneath the ground,
For Eternity they can continue to rest
Knowing that a new group are doing their very best,
That they will keep freedom at our door,
For Vigilant they'll be forever more
Freedom-Vigilance"
Dedicated to All Brave Men who have been
entrusted with being vigilant while guarding our freedom.
